SKIN CARE : PEELS
GLYCOLIC PEEL
$35/series of 6 $175Glycolic acid exfoliates dry, dull skin to stimulate cellular renewal and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. A fabulous treatment for those who want a serious anti-aging boost!
LACTIC PEEL
$35/series of 6 $175Lactic acid is milder on the skin than other peels, but is very similar to how glycolic acid works. People with sensitive skin can use this peel and see the same results as stronger peels. If you have rosacea, this is a better peel than glycolic acid.
SALICYLIC PEEL
$35/ series of 6 $175Salicylic acid is particularly helpful in clearing clogged follicles and in promoting exfoliation. Effective primarily on acne skin, although it can be used to fade age spots and any pigmented lesion.
Questions and Answers About Chemical Facial Peels
- What will chemical peels do for my skin? Chemical peels help smooth and freshen the complexion. The treatments help to decrease the signs of sun damage, minimize fine lines, even skin tone, decrease discolorations, and smooth rough skin. The peel may also be helpful to those prone to acne.
- How do they work? With time and sun exposure there is a gradual but slow-down in the rate at which old cells leave the surface of the skin and are replaced by newer cells. This results in a surface layer of dead skin cells that are responsible for the appearance of aged skin. Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) loosen the glue-like substances that hold the surface skin cells to each other, therefore allowing the dead skin to peel off. The skin underneath has a fresher, healthier look with a more even color and texture. Collagen and elastin regenerate making fine lines less obvious.
- How is the peel performed? First the face is cleansed to remove makeup and debris. Then a pre peel cleansing pad is used to further clean the face. Next the chemical is applied to the skin. Mild burning and stinging will occur. In 2 - 4 minutes the chemical will be washed off. Then a post peel mask, followed by a moisturizer and sunscreen, will be applied. Treated skin may be a little pink immediately after treatment.
- How many peels will I need? Most clients should plan on one peel every 2 - 4 weeks for a total of 5 - 6 peels. The results are gradual but long lasting.
- What are the risks? Adverse reactions to chemical peels are rare but can include peeling, redness, scabbing, infection, recurrence of cold sores, and prolonged sensitivity to wind and sun.
- What are the contraindications of Chemical Peels? You should not have a chemical peel if you will continue to have excessive sun exposure; active Herpes Simplex, warts, history of keloidal scarring, any type of recent facial surgical procedure. You should not a chemical peel if you are pregnant or lactating, if you have any auto immune diseases, have had recent radioactive or chemotherapy treatments - have sunburn, windburn or broken skin or have recently waxed or have recently used a depilatory.
